There are many viral diseases that currently predominate in the developing world. Untreated viruses that cause AIDS, respiratory infection, diarrhea, measles, and Ebola, are responsible for millions of deaths worldwide, mainly in the under developed world. WHO says that there may be 50 million cases of dengue fever virus infection worldwide every year.

Vaccines either don’t exist or cannot be deployed sufficiently to address these needs. A practical solution to the viral problem in the developing world could come from the discovery of a truly effective broad spectrum antiviral. Such a drug, or combinations of drugs, could be stored and administered without the need for specific expertise or diagnosis that is not currently practical in the developing world. Such drugs do not currently exist, but could change the world if a platform could be developed for their discovery.
